The Song of the Lord

Updated: Jun 2, 2023

Intimacy with the Lord is a key factor in being activated to sing the song of the Lord.

Spending time with GOD and in His word and presence while seeking His face is paramount. Just wanting to know Him better and giving Him more of you is the best time you can spend as a prophetic psalmist, commissioned to sing the song of the Lord.

Intimacy equals prayer and communion with GOD; it’s time spent in the secret place. Spending time here allows the free flow of the Holy Spirit to unlock and release to you instruction, revelation, or even the song of the Lord.

As a psalmist, praying in the Holy Ghost often leads to singing in the Holy Ghost. His voice through His word speaks to you to sing and intercede as He leads. Prophetic intercession and song arise effortlessly as you yield to the Holy Ghost.

Accessing the mind of Christ releases the insight, wisdom, and revelation of GOD. The gift of praying in the Holy Ghost has to be used in faith. GOD knows without Him, we are extremely limited in our own understanding. Psalm 51:6 reads, “Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.” We must live in the spirit of GOD and carry the mind of Christ so that, as He pours into us, we can be trusted to release the song of the Lord.

There are songs of intercession where the Lord will lead you to sing a prayer over yourself, someone else, or a group of people. The flow of His spirit that lives and works in you will lead you into all truth in what to say and do. You just have to follow His sound. There are songs of healing that will direct you to a person who needs the song of the Lord, or it may be a group of people. Or each person may receive an individual song. It is important to build trust when walking with Jesus on this level. Jesus only did what the Father did. Jesus only said what the Father said. He says in John 13:49, “For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.” This trust is first built privately in a relationship with the Lord of Hosts.

Our first duty as a psalmist is to minister unto the Lord. Lift up His name, bless His name, and delight in Him. Love GOD. Give GOD your best, your first, and your last. Give GOD the fruit of your lips. Sing His praises daily as He walks you through life. Even when the trials of life come, guard your heart and open your mouth to give Jesus all the glory. Be not silent! Ask GOD to always keep His song in your heart.

Psalm 33:6 says, “By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the hosts of them by the breath of his mouth.” When you create a personal altar of praise, worship, and sacrifice before the Lord and keep that fire burning, you will have what you need from Him when He sends you out.

GOD desires prepared true worshipers after His own heart. If our hearts are after GOD, He will fill the places, even where our experience in prophetic worship may not be as strong or experienced. When we trust GOD and know the assignment, He will fill us up. We just have to be willing vessels.

Recently, I heard of a type of song of the Lord called the spontaneous song and it interested me! I was listening to an interview with Jason Upton and he said, “Some of the greatest songs are started through spontaneity… Spontaneity means there is no form. Once you think you’re doing spontaneity, you're out of it.”

That sounds like a true level of freedom in worship when there is no agenda or timeframe. Just free worship with the Lord, but on a higher level, perhaps. It reminds me of the scripture, “.. where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” 2 Corinthians 3:17.

I imagine the spontaneous song is a song filled with freedom and joy. GOD wants us to be in unison with His spirit. His Spirit is FREE! Psalm 51: 12 says, “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.” Declare today that you are free to experience spontaneous worship! The spontaneous song is prophetic but different from what is typical of a prophetic song because it has no form. GOD will bring order to the sound and how words are released. I am very interested to hear a true spontaneous song!

To know what is on GOD’s mind for His people should flow freely and easily. His love, power, and healing want to fill every heart. When praise is lifted up in spirit and in truth, the sound of heaven is unlocked! The song of the Lord is so necessary.

Prophetic Psalmist's prayer:

Heavenly Father, I desire to sing the song of the Lord. I want to pour out your word on the Earth through song because it brings You glory and You've purposed me for this. Help me as I walk with You to answer this call. I must fulfill Your work, which is my assignment on the earth. I want to sound like You! Look like You! Walk like You! Talk like You! Sing like You! Dance like You! Love like You! Live like You! I desire to be increasingly on fire for You, as You move me deeper into freedom and destiny. You’ve called me to for such a time as this. I thank You for Your faithfulness and grace. I love you, Lord! It’s in Jesus' name, I pray. Amen!
